McLouth Happenings: Haunted hayrides next 2 Saturdays; Veterans to be honored at MES

Enjoy the ride of your life on the Threshers Lair Haunted Hayride this month at the McLouth Threshing Bee Grounds. Spooky rides will be offered 7:45-11 p.m. Saturday and 7:45-11 p.m. Oct. 26. Cost: $10 per person for adults and youths 7 and older; $5 for children ages 6 and younger.

McLouth Elementary Student Council, sponsored by MES counselor Vicki Feuerborn, organized and hosted the Fall Senior Citizen Luncheon on Oct. 3. Approximately 25 guests attended. McLouth High School students, under the direction of MHS vocational educational Marry Curry, made and served a delicious meal. Entertainment was provided by the jazz band and director Tristan Bartley. It was a great event.

Stanwood Friends Church Homecoming Weekend will celebrate 136 years of worship and fellowship this weekend. Movie night and snacks will start at 6 p.m. Saturday. Sunday School is at 10 a.m. Sunday, with a worship service at 11 a.m. with a time for memories, special music and stories, followed by a potluck dinner at the church, 6197 259th St., Tonganoxie, between Tonganoxie and McLouth.

McLouth Happenings: Old Settlers Festival

Don’t miss Old Settlers Festival, which runs Thursday through Saturday in Oskaloosa. This year’s theme is “Celebrating a New Generation of Old Settlers.” Lots of events and fun for all ages starting at 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday evenings beginning at 5 p.m., along with events all day and evening Saturday. There will be a carnival and live music every evening. The Old Settlers Parade will start at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Participants may start setting up and decorating trees Friday in McLouth’s Downtown City Park for the Ninth Annual Festival of Trees. Setup, decorating and removal will be the responsibility of the tree owner. Party and Tree Lighting Festivities will be 4-6 p.m. Dec. 1.
