Enjoy a full day of family fun Saturday, June 1, at McLouth’s 22nd Annual BBQ Blowout — “Northeast Kansas State BBQ Championship” — sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society, at Prairie Park on the west edge of McLouth. Visit with approximately 40 BBQ teams competing for trophies and prize money.

- Bob and Alfreda Ryan and Viola Edmonds on Good Friday went to Hoyt to visit niece, Coral, and her husband, Kenny Parrett, for an evening cookout on Good Friday. Family and friends totaled 32, from Topeka, Mayetta and Circleville, as well as Colorado and Nebraska.

What’s the best way to spend a snow day?
Shovel your driveway and paths, check neighbors’ driveways and then grab all your closest little ones and find the biggest sledding hill. Snowmen also are a must. Snow days are a great time to catch up on missed shows and much-needed rest. I love snowdays, they haven’t changed one bit even as an adult, although I am sure not all working adults can say that, but I am happy I can. I was excited to see the snowmen and other snow sculptures throughout the Lawrence and Kansas City metro areas.
