Tonganoxie Middle School student hit by SUV in fair condition at Children's Mercy

How in the world can you say that is is 100% her fault. Sorry, she is a child, the adult is as much at fault as the child is. Sorry but your comment really is wrong.

I agree with Dagger707 why is everyone acting like the children (I say children because another child got hit today) derserved to get hit by an adult in a moving vechile. I am not saying the adults do not feel gulity and feel devistaed that they just hit a child I would. But again, everyone needs to slow down and watch out. The city and the school has not taken our children's saftey into consideration putting more crosswalks & more sidewalks in, so please parents slow down and watch out.

Again, I ask, why the city has not put more sidewalks or crosswalks around this school??? There is one cross walk for children and 1 side walk on the South side of Washington.. tell me why nobody out there has not ever noticed this before?

Holding drivers accountable is something they need to do more often, has everyone forgotten that kids will be kids, no it might have been a bad decission on the childs part to cross where there is no cross walk. But adults need to remember they are just children. they are not as mature as adults are, they don't always think about what might happen. What we need to do is pay attention, no matter if the driver was going 5mph or 50mph that is very close to a school, at the time school is letting out. Again, I have a child that walks to & from TMS every morning & every afternoon. He is 12 and he does not always make the right choice on everything, but as a adult I have to make the right decission when it comes to the saftey of all children. If that means slowing way down to 3mph when children are walking to school or from school, then that is what should happen. Children will be children and every adult out there should keep that in mind. I really do not appreciate getting on here reading comments about how the child is all at fault and the adult did no wrong. I don't personally know either the driver or the child, but this hit's very hard on my heart. As I really don't want to be that parent that get's a call that my child was hit by an adult in a car walking home from school. The city of tonganoxie put in a middle school on a busy street, the city of Tonganoxie needs to put in side walks & proper crosswallks for the children to walk on the north or south side of Tonganoxie. All the rest of the town has side walks and crosswalks except Washington where there is a school.

It's not the streets. Sorry I have to disagree. My son goes to TMS & has walked to & from school for years. It's the drivers. People need to slow down & watch what they are doing. You can not leave it up to the children, us as adults need to take the steps to slow down during times the kids are walking to & from school. The police needs to do more. I've called the Tonganoxie police many of times about cars speeding up & down 5th street. Never once day or night have I seen a patrol car go down my street. I am saying many of prayers for this child & the family. Please everyone slow down and watch for children no matter what time it is.
