Do you agree with the Tonganoxie City Council's decision to charge rural residents with the 66086 ZIP code the same admission rates at the water park as those living in the city?

Trouble:

There are also a lot of people that pay sales taxes to build the pool that have not used it once. I am one of those people. I think in the last few years I have spent tens of thousands of dollars in Tonganoxie that are taxable, and much more that aren't. It's more convenient for me to use the pool here, but not even close to the same price. When I go somewhere else my sales tax dollars go too. You may think it's unfair for property taxes to be used to pay for the pool, but I think it's unfair to ask people like me to pay for improvements that I then have to pay a different rate to use.

I don't like it when cities use sales tax dollars to pay for things they want. They do it so they don't have to raise property taxes and can tax people that can't vote in their district.

The pool is paid for using sales tax dollars that are paid for by people that live in town and by people that don't. I don't currently live in town but work here and do shopping here, eat here, buy gas here, and plenty more.

Yesterday we went to the Lawrence pool because it cost $11 to get in there and it would have been $22 to use the Tonganoxie pool. Part of the difference was the out of town rate and the rest was that Lawrence let in kids 4 and under for free. Tonganoxie charges for kids 2 and over. When we were done we went out to eat in Lawrence and spent another $30 there.

My point is that people that don't live in town are paying for the pool by spending our money in town. We should have as much right to use the pool as a resident. If it were being paid for with personal property taxes I would have a different opinion. People that don't live in town can easily go somewhere else. Lawrence was 20 minutes from McLouth, and Tonganoxie was 15. I would have come to Tonganoxie if the rates were the same or close to it, and I would have bought dinner here too, and probably patronized the lumberyard.
