The school board alows principals to treat parents rudely. Look at the record. Brent Smith lied to parents, lied in a federal deposition and tryed to lie in a federal trial. The schools own records triped him up. His punishment was. He got his contract renewed and big raises. In 2006 he made 69,458.00 In 2011 he will make 79,350.00. In 5 years he has gotten 9,892.00 in raises. maryjo have you gotten that much in raises? Do you know anyone that has? So why not treat the people that pay you like crap? The school board will protect them. This year a parent went to the board and complained about how he was treated by the middle school principal when he tryed to take his daughter out of school for a doctors appointment. Did the board ask any questions? No. Why not? There the school board. They can set on there hands and do nothing while the principals do as they please, and the taxpayer pay and pay.

Tuition decision reversed

If the board wants to save money they shouldn't have renewed Brent Smiths contract. That would have saved the taxpayers 79,350.00.

Letter to the editor:

Mike, What makes you think the school board did not represent the district majority? Do you think the majority of the taxpayers want our tax money wasted and given away to fix problems that the superintendent caused or hid from the school board? You said, " he dosen't waste money".
How much of the taxpayers money was wasted buying out Mr. Bruns contract? What did it cost for the audit of the central offices? What did the federal law suit cost taxpayers? Sounds like wasted money to me.
Mike did you get on bensonlaw.com and read what happened in our schools? READ the FACTS before you judge the school board.

ksu_tchr. You are so right. Our schools are used as a negative example, and its sad. As high as our taxes are, we should have top-notch schools and the best administrators.
When you explained the superintendents actions to your professor, what was the first question your professor asked you. "I'm just guessing", but I'll bet he asked you why Erickson still had a job here.
I’m sure the school board has more information as to why they voted the way they did and I hope now, everyone can move on to a different subject.
I hope you continue with your education. We need all of the educated young ladies we can get. You sound like a caring and compassionate person who would look out for the best interest of your students. I hope when you graduate there is a place at U.S.D.464 for you.

Mr. Weatherford. Please put aside your friendship for a moment with Dr. Erickson. There is a difference between Dr. Erickson your friend, and the superintendent of USD 464.
Please go to bensonlaw.com, scroll down to the school bullying case. Click on it. read school districts post-trail motion denied. Then ask yourself, if this was my child and I went to the superintendent of USD 464 several times and asked for help and he did nothing. Would he be someone you would describe as a good person? Who should be held responsible for that mess? Who is in charge? It comes back to the same person. The superintendent of USD 464. Remember in every wreck it’s always asked, who was driving? Your right, there is a lot of blame to go around, but who was in charge?
No it can not be laid to rest because it is used everyday. Law schools teach about bullying and use Tonganoxie as an example. The D.A.R.E program uses it when their showing a bad example. A mother in Lansing took a copy of the verdict to her daughters school and gave it to the principal and told him "if you don’t stop the bullying of my daughter this is going to be where your school ends up”. A bullying problem that went on for months was stopped that day. There are people all over the Untied States that have used this case to help their children.
Why wasn't he held accountable the year the school lost the trial? Ask former school board members Dr. Dean, Bob Dehoff and Ron Moore. Also Darlyn Hansen who is still on the board. The good-old-boys did nothing Why. Ask them.
This board has had enough of his failures and said enough. It should have happened a long time ago but some of the board members had the same problem your having. He is my friend. No, he’s an employee that sat and let a problem continue that he should have stopped. He let it get so far out of hand, it ended up in federal court, embarrassing our town and school.
The good thing about the truth is. Its always the same, a year from now or 10 years from now, its still the truth. He didn't do his job and it took several years for him to be held accountable.
If a doctor did something that hurt a patient and later it was discovered? Would you say lets move on or lets hold him accountable? Or would you call it a personal vendetta?
I’m sure Dr. Erickson is a good husband and father. I have heard he’s a good coach, the taxpayers are not paying him for those things. He’s being paid to run our school district. Not scream at people, belittle employees and allow problems to get so bad the district ends up losing a federal case.

I hope you don’t think I am attacking you. I’m not. You are a business man. You should know the difference between what’s business and personal.
One more question. would you leave your wife alone with someone you have been told has a "hot temper and has lost control in the past? I wouldn't. I also wouldn't put him in charge of my kids either!

B weatherford, please define the words caring and compassion.
If we look at the superintendent as an example this is what we see.
A superintendent that hid a bullying problem from the school board that went on for 4 1/2 years. He ignored parents pleas for help. Did this caring and compassionate man take the witness stand and explain to the jury how he used his experience as an educator and show them how caring and compassionate he was. Did he fix the bullying and harassment problem that he knew about from the first week? NOPE
If you read his deposition you would know there was no way he could explain his imcompetence away.
After losing the lawsuit and costing the insurance company $440.000 and embarrassing our schools did he stand up in a school board meeting and say We have to fix this. Our school will never be embarrassed like this again... NOPE
2 years after that embarrassment, parents were again at the school board complaining that kids were being pee’d on.. choked until they passed out, and one had ben-gay pushed up his a**. Even after that, did that caring and compassionate man stand up and say NO MORE and try to implement new rules and procedures to hold administrators accountable? NOPE!
So what has the caring and compassionate man done... He has screamed at the district employees.. Screamed at a parent at a school board meeting. Screamed at an employee so bad that the police were called. That caring and compassionate act only cost the taxpayers $57,000.
Is this your definition of a "good man"?
Well the school board did refund the tax money that he over charged us, so some of the board members must be caring and compassionate.
You think the taxpayers could afford another year of this caring and compassionate good man?
The board did listen to the majority of the people. The majority want their tax money used to educate their children.. Not buy out his mistakes.
Well Doc. if you get a few minutes look up the words caring, compassionate and incompetent and see which one fits.

Bob did you read any of the blogs? Did you go to the Benson web site and see what went on in our school while the superintendent did nothing?
Would your wife work in an office for a boss that slams his hand on her desk and screams at her?
Bob , Bob, Bob.. do a little reading and find out the truth. Or are you unwilling to know what was going on in our school district?
Did you ask your buddy the superintendent for a copy of his deposition? Did you ask the board president for a copy of his deposition that she has? She won't read it. Why? ask her!
So what your saying Bob is You think a superintendent should hide problems from the board. Let a problem go on for years until it ends up in federal court. Cost the insurance company $440.000. Embarrassed our schools and town..
You think the mark of a good superintendent is someone who will scream at, and berate his staff, then scream at a parent at a school board meeting, because the parent didn't agree with him? Didn't the superintendent's bullying rant cost the taxpayers $57,000. Yep, our superintendent did a heck of a job there.
The "good-ol-boys are gone.. We have a board that wants to straighten up the problems, so as a school we can move forward.
Bob, everyone needs a buddy, this school district just can't afford yours.

Get a cup of coffee and do some reading. Please Mr. and Ms. majority read the "school district post trial motion denied. There are some very good quotes from school administrators. After reading it, ask yourself who is doing an excellent job? Who was supervising these administrators?
When your finished reading ask yourself, why didn't our superintendent that is doing an “excellent job” take the witness stand and explain all of this away? Just read his deposition, and you will understand why he didn’t.
In the half page ad it says, " you have a very short time to make yourself heard". READ the facts for yourself, then call our school board members. Ask the school board members that have voted to keep the superintendent, why?
How many more trials where our schools look incompetent in the national press will it take before people realize there is a problem? How many more people will have to be bought out with taxpayers money?
Ok last question. How many of the "majority" have attended a whole school board meeting. Not just sat through the part where your child was given an award by the superintendent and then you hurried out?
How many of the "majority” were at the school board meeting when the superintendent stopped board member Smith rudely in mid sentence and told her to "listen to me!" She was not allowed to make her point. Why? Because she was trying to give her opinion on a subject that he didn't agree with.
Ok that was two questions but they were good ones.
Clearly it is time for a change.

So there is a new political organization in Tonganoxie. "Supporters of Dr. Richard Erickson, superintendent USD 464"
How many of the "supporters" signed the half page ad in the paper? Just one. So is there just one "supporter" or are the rest of the "supporters" to afraid to sign their names. It kind of reminds you of the old cockroach saying, they all run in the light of day.
If they truly "support" the superintendent why don't they explain in their half page ad, why the taxpayers had to buy out Mr. Brun’s contract? If the superintendent is such a good administrator surely he doesn’t have to yell at people to make a point. He should use all of his educational skill to lead the administrators without yelling at them. Do the "supporters" think that was the only time the superintendent had thrown one of his screaming rants?
The "supporters" "believe the majority of the patrons in the Tonganoxie School District feel that Dr. Erickson has done an excellent job”?
Ask the "majority” of people if, at their job, a supervisor lost control and the police had to be called, what would have happened to the supervisor? Would the “majority" work at a job where their supervisor screamed at them?
Please would the "majority" explain if the superintendent has done an "excellent" job, how did your school district in up in federal court? READ THE FACTS its all public record.
The superintendent knew about the bullying and harassment problem from the start.
A good thing about a trial in open court, its all public record. The "majority" should read the superintendents deposition. EVERY board member has a copy. They would be happy to print you off a copy. READ it, Read the part closely where the superintendent "explains" sexual harassment.
The “majority” should have explained in their half page ad, why if our superintendent was doing an "excellent job" did the federal jury find "that the school district was deliberately indifferent to the harassment"
Would any of the "majority" send their children to a school that treated their child with deliberate indifference? I'm guessing not!
So why would you support a superintendent that was in charge while the harassment was going on with his full knowledge?
If a school board member has "miss-placed" their copy of the superintendents deposition, you can get a copy of your own from the Benson Law office.

Board to take final vote on contract Jan. 12

The publisher of The Mirror should interview Ms. Truesdell, Ms. McMillion and Mr. Hansen. They should be given the opportunity to explain to the taxpayers and the people that voted for them, why they want to keep a superintendent that has ignored federal law, and falied to supervise the principals and assistant principals. Why are they so willing to keep a superintendent that bullyed a co worker so bad that it cost the taxpayers $57,000.
Our schools are a financial mess and they think the superintendent that got us into that situation needs to be rewarded with a contract and raise??? Please tell everyone your logic in giving someone a contract that has harmed our schools and our school districts reputation.
The superintendent always says.. the buck stop here as he points to his desk.. Its time to send the "buck" to the pasture and hire a professional to fix the mess the superintendent has put our school district in.
