Wanda (Ligiejko) Shatto
1919-1999
Wanda (Ligiejko) Shatto, Tonganoxie, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, at Trinity Lutheran Manor, Shawnee. Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, Dec. 18 at St. Joseph and St. Benedict Catholic Church. Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Mrs. Shatto was born on Sept. 6, 1919, in Kansas City, Kan. She moved to Springfield, Ohio, in 1951, and moved to Tonganoxie in 1978.
She was a member of St. Joseph and St. Benedict Catholic Church.
Her husband, Romanis Shatto, died earlier.
Survivors include two sisters: Antoinete Yankovich and Mary M. Kolich, both of Kansas City, Kan.
Skradski Funeral Home, Kansas City, Kan., handled arrangements.
The family suggests memorial contributions to K.C. Hospice, Lenexa, or Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Tonganoxie.
John F. (Bud) Tullis
1951-1999
John F. (Bud) Tullis, 48, McLouth, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, at his home.
Funeral services were Saturday Dec. 18, 1999, at First Baptist Church, McLouth, with the Rev. Scott Berry officiating. Cremation followed with a private inurnment.
Mr. Tullis was born March 21, 1951, in Leavenworth, the son of John and Mary (Farrell) Tullis. He had worked as a computer trouble shooter. In 1969 he graduated from McLouth High School and in 1971 from Clark’s Business School, Topeka. He married Judith Marie McAferty on Aug. 20, 1971 in McLouth. His twin brother, Robert Lee Tullis, died in 1951.
Survivors include his wife, Judith Tullis, Lawrence; three daughters, Angie Cammack, Carey Tullis and Brenda Tullis, all of McLouth; his parents, McLouth; one brother, Mike Tullis, McLouth; three sisters, Sylvia Steffen, Leavenworth, Linda Duncan, McLouth, and Peggy Heim, Leavenworth.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, sent in care of Quisenberry Funeral Home, P.O. Box 993, Tonganoxie 66086.
Amber Dawn Coleman
1981-1999
Amber Dawn Coleman, 18, Burns, died Dec. 15, 1999, at El Dorado. Services were Sunday, Dec. 19, at Potwin Christian Church, with graveside services at the Whitewater Center Church Cemetery in rural Burns. The Rev. Rick McNary officiated.
She was born Jan. 6, 1981, the daughter of David Lynn and Darla Janelle (Mathia) Coleman, in Kansas City, Mo.
Survivors include her parents, of the home; two brothers, Tyler and Jacob, both of the home; her paternal grandmother, Patricia Armstrong of Tonganoxie; and her maternal grandparents, Harold and Evelyn Mathia of Kansas City, Mo.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Camp Adventure in care of the Bob Lamb Funeral Home, Whitewater.
Amelia M. Kesinger
1916-1999
Amelia M. Kesinger, 83, Lawrence, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 21, at West Haven Baptist Church in Tonganoxie, with the Rev. Rick Lamb officiating. Burial was in Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie.
Mrs. Kesinger was born Aug. 1, 1916, in Randolph, the daughter of Amiel and Anna Fryhoffer. She retired in 1986 from the financial aid department at the University of Kansas, Lawrence. She had also worked as a rural school teacher in Randolph, at Sunflower Army Ordinance Plant, DeSoto, and R.E.A. in McLouth. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Tonganoxie. On April 16, 1949, she married Asa E. Kesinger. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Wayne Kesinger, Tonganoxie; a daughter, Marilyn Robbins, Lawrence; a brother, Donald Fryhoffer, Tulsa, Okla.; a sister, Jo Russell, Santa Rosa, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Jacquelin Joan Johnson
1939-1999
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at the United Methodist Church in Tonganoxie for Jacquelin Joan Johnson, 60, Zaventem, Belgium. The Rev. YoungBo Lee will officiate. Burial will be in Hubble Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie.
Mrs. Johnson died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, in Brussels, Belgium.
Mrs. Johnson was born May 4, 1939, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Francis and Beulah (Somers) Lenahan. She taught since 1986 in the Department of Defense Dependent Schools, Brussels, Belgium. She was a graduate of the University of Kansas, Lawrence; a member of the United Methodist Church and Rinda Chapter No. 82 Order of the Eastern Star, both of Tonganoxie. In June 1989 she was married Jean Vandervorst in Tonganoxie. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Parke Johnson, Leavenworth, and Allen Johnson, Lansing; two daughters, Paige Williams, Lawrence, and Paulette Johnson, Easton; her parents, Francis and Beulah Lenahan, Tonganoxie; her brother, Richard Lenahan, Tonganoxie; a grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends to 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Quisenberry Chapel, Tonganoxie, where an Eastern Star service will be held.
Marie Dobson Hastings
1910 – 1999
Funeral services were held Monday in Montrose, Iowa, for Marie Dobson Hastings, 89, who died Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, at the Montrose Nursing Center. The Rev. Michael Spiekermeier officiated. Burial was in Montrose Cemetery.
Mrs. Hastings was born in Clark County, Mo, the daughter of George and Francis Marcus Bennett. She was a lifelong resident of the area and had retired from Graham Hospital after 25 years of working as a nurse’s aide.
She married Ralph Dobson. He died in 1946. She later married Otis Hastings, who died in 1973.
Survivors include two sons, Joseph Dobson, Montrose, and Ralph Dobson, South Bend, Ind.; a daughter, Connie Putthoff, Tonganoxie; a brother, Norbert Bennett, Wayland, Mo.; a sister, Madeline Benham, Keokuk, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
