Seventh-grade girls
The Tonganoxie seventh grade Lady Warriors concluded their 1999-00 basketball season Thursday by winning the Piper Tournament as they defeated the host school by 17-6. Earlier in the week the Lady Warriors had defeated Monticello 26-23 to reach the finals. The following night the entire 23-girl team played Lansing and came out on the short end of all three games. In the two “B” game Lansing won by scores of 30-9 and 21-8 while the A-team lost a closely contested game by a score of 24-21.
The Piper championship win finished a very successful A-Team season of nine wins, five losses while the B-Team finished 6-8. Coach Phil Jeannin remarked how much improvement the girls showed over the year and that they exceeded all expectations.
“I feel this group of girls has a great future ahead of them,” Jeannin said.
