Edith C. Sawyer
Edith C. Sawyer, 83, Springfield, Mo., died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, in Springfield, Mo.
Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999, at Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie.
Mrs. Sawyer was born July 24, 1916, in Springfield, Mo., the daughter of Charles and Rushia (Shelton) Nobles. She was married Nov. 7, 1934, in Springfield, Mo., to Ralph Sawyer. They lived in Kansas City, Kan., before moving in 1974 to Tonganoxie. While living in Tonganoxie, she was a member of the First Congregational Church, its Plymouth Guild and the Extension Homemakeris Unit Kountry Klub. Her husband, Ralph Sawyer died on June 16, 1988, after which she moved back to Springfield, Mo., to be near her family.
Survivors include a son, Ronald M. Sawyer, Ozark, Mo., and a daughter, Linda Sawyer, Springfield, Mo.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie, handled local arrangements.
Cassie Lynn Jessup
Cassie Lynn Jessup, 17, McLouth, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at her home in McLouth after a long illness. She had cancer.
She was born Aug. 4, 1982, at Winchester, the daughter of Charles R. and Vicki Sue Kingsolver Jessup. She was a lifelong resident of McLouth.
She had attended McLouth public schools. She was a baby-sitter in the McLouth area and worked as clerk at the Outpost convenience store in rural Tonganoxie.
Survivors include her mother, Vicki S. Jessup, McLouth; her father, Charles Jessup, McLouth; two sisters, Carley Jessup and Carmen Jessup, both of McLouth; her paternal grandmother, Joyce Jessup, McLouth; her maternal grandparents, Elliot and Shirley Faye Kingsolver, McLouth; her maternal great-grandparents, Mary Hedgepath, McLouth, and Gerald and Helen Kingsolver, Hillsdale, and a nephew, Lucas Skaggs Jr., McLouth.
Graveside services were at 10 a.m. last Friday, Sept. 3, 1999, at the Fowler Cemetery northeast of McLouth.
The family suggests memorials to the Cassie L. Jessup Memorial Fund, in care of Barnett Funeral Home, 820 Liberty, P.O. Box 416, Oskaloosa, 66066.
Carol J. Wilkerson
Carol J. Wilkerson, 65, Tonganoxie, died Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, in an automobile accident south of Lansing.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at Quisenberry Chapel in Tonganoxie. Burial was in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Kansas City, Kan.
Mrs. Wilkerson was born Aug. 15, 1934, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Gene and Anne (Barnes) Wilkerson.
She worked as a registered nurse for 23 years at Dwight D. Eisenhower Veterans Administration Medical Center in Leavenworth, where she was to retire Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999. She was married Dec. 17, 1988, in Leavenworth, to Thomas E. Wilkerson Jr. and moved to Tonganoxie from Kansas City, Kan. He died March 29, 1999.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas Smith, Carthage, Mo., and Steven Wilkerson of the home; two daughters, Roberta Williams, Peculiar, Mo., and Melissa Tebow, Belton, Mo.; a brother, Jack Ralston, South Carolina; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter.
