Annual Relay for Life set for this weekend
The 12-hour Relay for Life kicks off Friday night, and the public is invited to participate throughout the special event.
The fund-raising event for the American Cancer Society gets under way at 6 p.m. Friday at VFW Park. It concludes at 6 a.m. Saturday.
Cancer survivors will walk the first lap around the park during the relay. Dinner concessions will be provided by Community National Bank, and proceeds will be given to the American Cancer Society.
Events throughout the evening include a disc jockey from Oldies 95 who will provide music, a cake walk, and education, prevention and support program information about cancer.
At 9 p.m., luminaries will be lit to honor both survivors and people lost to cancer. The luminaries will burn throughout the night. An auction of donated items will take place after the lighting ceremony.
“We encourage the community to come out to enjoy the evening,” said Kim Kolman, one of the organizers of the event.
