High school seeking several new coaches
Tonganoxie High School is looking for a few good coaches.
The high school junior varsity volleyball position and freshmen boys and freshmen girls basketball positions have been filled, but six openings still remain vacant.
THS athletics director John Lee said the turnover wasn’t unheard of, but hoped to have all positions filled by September.
“We thought we had good people in those positions, but for unforeseen reasons they moved on,” Lee said.
Lee also said that the district has advertised in The Mirror as well as two other newspapers to improve chances for applicants.
Positions are still available for girls assistant basketball, junior varsity girls basketball, junior varsity boys basketball, seventh grade assistant football, junior high girls and boys track and junior varsity volleyball. Lee said a third soccer coach might be hired because of increased team numbers.
Although Lee wants positions filled, he doesn’t want to rush things with the winter and spring positions.
“We want to make sure it’s the right person for the job,” Lee said.
The more urgent vacancies are football and volleyball.
Lee said he hopes to have the football position filled before camp starts in two weeks.
