Janice M. Guthrie

Funeral services for Janice M. Guthrie, 49, Ottawa, were Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Ottawa.

Mrs. Guthrie died at a Johnson County hospital on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. She was born Aug. 26, 1952, in Leavenworth, the daughter of Florence (Cooley) Prins.

She graduated in 1970 from Tonganoxie High School, and in 1991 received a bachelor of arts degree in English at the University of Kansas. She earned a law degree in 1994 from KU.

Since 1997, she had worked as a research attorney for the Kansas Supreme Court in Topeka. From 1994 to 1997, she was associate director of the Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence.

She had lived in Ottawa since 1975. She attended Trinity United Methodist Church, Ottawa, and was a board member and president elect of Women’s Transitional Care Service in Lawrence.

She married Mike Guthrie on Aug. 6, 1970, in Tonganoxie. He survives.

Other survivors include four daughters, Prudence Fisher, Las Vegas, Priscilla Carter, Ottawa, Deloris Riemer, Ottawa, and Patricia Jackson, Pomona; her mother, Florence Prins, Leavenworth; a brother, Bruce Smock, Leavenworth; two sisters, Dayle Yantzi and Cindy Kloster, both of Platte City, Mo.; three granddaughters; and one grandson.
