Four people hurt in head-on collision

A head-on collision Friday on Kansas Highway 16 sent four local residents to Kansas City area hospitals by air ambulances.

About 3:30 p.m. Friday on K-16 east of 239th Street, a vehicle driven by James R. Collins, 48, McLouth, went left of center and hit another vehicle head-on. Cynthia R. Lynch, 33, Tonganoxie, and her 9-year-old and 3-year-old children were in the other vehicle.

Collins was taken to the University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, Kan., by Life Net. The hospital had no record of treatment for Collins.

Cynthia Lynch was taken by Life Flight Eagle to St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Mo., where she was listed in good condition on Tuesday.

Lynch’s children were transported by Life Flight Eagle and Life Net to Children’s Mercy, Kansas City, Mo. According to a hospital official, Ryan Lynch, 9, and Evan Lynch, 3, were in fair condition on Tuesday.

Tonganoxie city firefighters, Tonganoxie township firefighters, Tonganoxie police, Leavenworth County Emergency Medical Services and the Leavenworth County sheriff’s office also responded to the accident scene.
