Auditors complete library review
Tonganoxie police continue their investigation into the alleged misuse of funds at the city’s library.
Last week, a Lawrence auditing firm completed its review of the library’s financial records.
Tonganoxie police Sgt. John Putthoff said he had received a preliminary report from the auditors, but was waiting on a complete report.
“I’ll go over the paperwork from them about what went on there,” Putthoff said.
In addition, he will talk further with the library staff and board members.
He anticipates he will send a report soon to the Leavenworth County attorney’s office to review for the possibility of filing criminal charges.
“My initial report is up there, but the full investigation is not complete yet,” Putthoff said. “I hope to be done with week.”
Library director Beckie Borella resigned after Putthoff’s investigation was launched nearly a month ago into the alleged misuse of library funds. Putthoff has said he thought less than $5,000 was involved in the case. The case is centering on the misuse of a credit card.
Borella, 44, had been library director since October 1997.
