McLouth girls see some successes
McLouth High opened its cross country season with more success on the girls side.
Running last Thursday in the Jeff West Invitational at the Shawnee North Community Center in Topeka, sisters Erin and Hallie Watson paced the Bulldogs with fifth- and 11th-place finishes respectively. Christy Gunther took 16th and Katie Booth 18th. Neva Gardner finished 37th as the Bulldogs took third place, finishing behind meet champion Sabetha and Mount St. Scholastica Academy.
Crystal Snyder (49th) and Michala Karn (51st) also competed for McLouth.
For the boys team, Matt Scarlett led the team with a third-place finish in the varsity race, while Sam Anderson took first in the junior varsity race.
Although the Bulldogs had three runners medal in the varsity race with Scarlett, Scott Smelser (14th) and Nick Edgell (25th), they didn’t field five runners and did not place as a team. Justin Drinnon was the fourth runner in the varsity meet. He took 35th.
In other junior varsity results, Tanner Bristol placed 13th, Bryce Hoffhines 20th, Ryan Saxton 21st, Lance Lamborn 28th, Spencer Lamborn 29th and Cody Berry 49th.
The Bulldogs will get an early glance at the state course when they head to Wamego Saturday to run in the Wamego Invitational held at the local golf course.
The meet will start at 9 a.m.
