Our view: It’s time to clear the air about city hall
Isn’t it about time that we all got along? The consistent bickering about how Tonganoxie city government is being run is wearing thin.
If city council members or the mayor are concerned that the city isn’t in good hands and that bad decisions are being made by city staff members, then let’s have a public airing of those concerns. Let’s call a meeting, let’s get it all out in the open. And let’s solve any problems that might exist.
And then let’s go on.
It would be good for the city of Tonganoxie if the air were cleared.
No more behind-the-scenes rumors. No more “he said, she said.”
The recent questions raised about how the city clerk was appointed is just the latest volley in the private battle about city government.
If the city fathers and mothers don’t start working above-board, it’s going to become increasingly more difficult to attract high-quality city employees to Tonganoxie. Who would want to work in a city where every move is questioned? Who would want to work in a city where rumors, rather than productive conversations, are the norm?
No one.
So let’s get any concerns that exist out in the open. Let’s get any problems that are discovered solved. And, by all means, let’s get back to the business at hand, which is ensuring Tonganoxie continues to be the envy of all small Kansas towns.
The bickering and the rumor-mongering are tearing a hole in the fabric that makes this city a great place to live and work.
Let’s solve our problems and let’s move on.
