Kansas, K-State to play at CommunityAmerica Ballpark
Kansas and Kansas State are two of four collegiate baseball teams competing in the inaugural Best of the Midwest Tournament on April 26 and 27 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan.
New Mexico State and Sacramento State also will play at the ballpark, home to the Kansas City T-Bones.
The tournament will be the first NCAA Division I invitational played at the ballpark. The stadium opened in 2003 across State Avenue from Kansas Speedway.
“We’re thrilled to be able to play this tournament at a venue as beautiful as CommunityAmerica Ballpark,” KU coach Ritch Price said. “Having this location in place allowed us to attract teams from across the country for the 2005 as well as 2006 tournaments.”
The tournament will expand to six teams in 2006. Creighton and Missouri are slated to play in that tourney.
This year’s schedule will be: On April 26, K-State will play New Mexico State at 2 p.m. and Kansas will face Sacramento State at 7 p.m. On April 27, Kansas will play New Mexico State at 2 p.m. and K-State will take on Sacramento State at 7 p.m.
The Kansas City Sports Commission will be the tournament host.
