Two accidents injure Oskaloosa residents

By Shawn Linenberger - | Dec 29, 2004

An accident last Wednesday and another Sunday on Kansas Highway 16 sent a total of four Oskaloosa residents to area hospitals.

About 3 p.m. Sunday, Selvy H. Johnson, 63, and Cynthia K. Johnson, 57, were traveling east on K-16 in the 22900 block of the highway.

For an unknown reason, the vehicle, which was driven by Mrs. Johnson, drifted across the center lane and onto the shoulder. The vehicle continued over the embankment and struck a driveway.

The vehicle then went airborne, striking a tree.

Mrs. Johnson was extricated from the vehicle. Both were taken to Overland Park Regional Medical Center where they were listed in good condition Monday. Neither was wearing a seat belt.

The other accident occurred at 10:08 p.m. last Wednesday at K-16 and 239th Street.

In that crash, David N. Thibault, 15, Oskaloosa, was driving west on K-16 when he lost control of his vehicle and it left the road.

The vehicle flipped over on its top and slid farther down the road. Thibault and a passenger, 22-year-old Brian Summerville, were taken to hospitals.

Thibault was taken to the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., where he was treated and then released Friday.

Summerville was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.
