Basehor hires first administrator

By Joshua Roberts - | Feb 18, 2004

After months of interviewing prospective candidates, the Basehor City Council has hired the first city administrator in Basehor government history.

This week, city officials announced the hiring of David Fuqua of Cushing, Okla. And the city will host a public reception for Fuqua, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at city hall.

Fuqua was selected from a crop of more than 60 candidates in a national search coordinated by the League of Kansas Municipalities.

Basehor City Council president Julian Espinoza said Fuqua is an ideal hire for the city.

“I think he’s going to be a good fit for Basehor,” Espinoza said. “He has experience, managing city affairs is second nature to him, and he’s a good people person.”

Espinoza also said Fuqua and his family are in the process of moving to Basehor.

Fuqua has nine years experience in city management.

Some of Fuqua’s responsibilities include managing day-to-day operation of the city, supervising all department heads, developing short and long-term planning and preparing and submitting an annual budget.

He will begin work on Monday in Basehor.
