Services for Leonard Deward Valentine, 92, Tonganoxie were Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at Porter Funeral Home, Kansas City, Kan. Burial was in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Valentine died Friday, July 9, 2004, at St. John Hospital in Leavenworth. He was born March 22, 1912, in Kansas City, Kan.
When he was 1, he traveled with his family in a covered wagon to Texas. He returned to Kansas City when he was 13.
He enlisted in the Navy and served in World War II. He owned and operated Valentine’s Garage in Welborn for 35 years, retiring in 1978.
He was married to Helen Seward Valentine for 56 years. She died Sept. 8, 1994.
Survivors include three daughters, Judy Etter, Atchison, Shirley Hunter, Independence, Mo., and Nancy Sheafer, Powersville, Mo.; a brother, Clayton Valentine, California; two sisters, Jean Jung, Liberty, Mo., and Bonita Bryant, Missouri City, Mo.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and good friend Georgia Trieb, Tonganoxie.
Two daughters, Nancy Jean and Elizabeth Ann, preceded him in death.
