Obituary: Muriel Hansen

Services for Muriel Hansen, 95, Tonganoxie, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2004, at Quisenberry Funeral home in Tonganoxie. Burial will be in McLouth Cemetery, McLouth.

Mrs. Hansen died Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at Tonganoxie Nursing Center. She was born Aug. 26, 1908, in Putman County, Mo., near Unionville, the oldest of 10 children born to Otto and Anna (Murphy) Furnish.

She married Joseph Berry in Unionville, Mo. They later divorced. On Dec. 20, 1957, she married Ernest Hansen of McLouth.

After Mrs. Hansen graduated from high school, she began a long career teaching in both Kansas and Missouri. She received a bachelor of arts degree in 1963 from Baker University, Baldwin. In 1973, she retired from the Linwood School District. She was a member of the Kansas Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include two sons, A.J. (Joe) Berry, Shawnee, and John Berry, Tonganoxie; a sister, Mildred Perkins, Unionville, Mo.; a brother, Gail A. Furnish, Iowa; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Hansen, on Dec. 3, 1992, and two grandchildren, David Berry in 1979 and Dottie Burns in 2004.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Kansas City Hospice or the American Cancer Society, sent in care of Quisenberry Funeral Home, P.O. Box 993, Tonganoxie 66086, where the family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.
