Obituary: Roxie L. Heard Stratton

Graveside services for Roxie L. Heard Stratton, 81, Oskaloosa, were Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at Hubbel Hill Cemetery in Tonganoxie.

Mrs. Stratton died Friday, April 30, 2004, at Hickory Pointe Nursing Center in Oskaloosa. She was born June 27, 1922, in Branch, Mo., the daughter of William and Myrtle Mae Bonner.

She married Bryant Heard in 1940. She married Harper Stratton in 1957. Both of her husbands preceded her in death.

She lived most of her adult life in or near Windsor, Mo., and she worked as a food service supervisor at Central Missouri State University at Warrensburg, Mo., for a number of years.

In 1988, she moved to Tonganoxie and made her home with her son, William Heard. She later moved to Oskaloosa and lived in the Hannah Apartments until failing health required her in March 2000 to move to Hickory Pointe.

Survivors include a son, William B. Heard Sr., Oskaloosa; a stepdaughter, Violet Patton, Windsor, Mo.; a stepson, Kenneth Stratton, Phoenix; a sister, Betty Ganote, Joplin, Mo.; two grandsons; four great-grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.
