Woman ‘critical’ after head-on crash
A 32-year-old Lawrence woman remained in critical condition Tuesday after a head-on collision Monday on Kansas Highway 32 that injured her and her 2-year-old son.
Officials at the University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, Kan., said Tuesday that Debra Park, Lawrence, was in critical condition. And her 2-year-old son, Andrew, apparently was treated for minor cuts at Children’s Mercy Hospital, according to a sheriff’s department clerk.
The condition of the third victim in the accident, Cathryn E. Deay, 52, Eudora, was not available from KU Hospital because of patient privacy laws.
Sheriff’s reports said the accident occurred about 8:45 a.m. Monday a half-mile east of Linwood on K-32. Reports said Deay’s truck, which was heading west, veered onto the shoulder of the road. She attempted to come back on the road but overcorrected, crossing the centerline, colliding head-on with Park’s vehicle.
Park and Deay were transported to the hospital by air ambulance while Leavenworth County Emergency Medical Service took Andrew Park to Children’s Mercy.
Eight agencies worked the accident scene Monday morning. The sheriff’s department is continuing to investigate the exact cause of the crash.
