Letter to the editor: Hard work by gardeners

By Staff | Oct 13, 2004

I want to congratulate three ladies who work tirelessly to help make Tonganoxie a city to be proud of. They are Master Gardeners Alice DeMoss, Susan Quisenberry and Connie Putthoff.

Unfortunately someone does not see the work and beauty these ladies work so hard at on their own time. I know they were at the gardens during the heat, in the morning and evening hours, laying mulch and pulling weeds, putting in new plants and watering. They are also putting in gardens at the historical museum.

Two weeks ago, they put in signs telling the history of the gardens that Harold Putthoff made and signs naming the different plants.

Now the signs of the garden history have been destroyed and some plants through the summer were destroyed.

I grew up here and have always taken pride in what we have. To the person or persons who do not have enough to do but destroy this garden, maybe you should stop and offer your help and see what a hard job it is to be a Master Gardner who cares.

Letter to the editor: What’s Kansas like?

By Staff | Oct 13, 2004

Our fourth grade class is currently studying the regions of the United States.

We are learning about each state and their landforms, environment and special places of interest. We are asking for your help. We would like people to send us postcards that show us what your state is like. This would help us get a first-hand look at your state. If you would like to write a note on back it would be appreciated. We want to take this opportunity in advance to thank you for helping us make learning a fun and rewarding experience. We appreciate your help.

Thank you.
