Tonganoxie clobbers Eudora, 10-0, on senior night

By Shawn Linenberger - | Oct 20, 2004

Seniors on the Tonganoxie soccer team had fond memories of their final regular-season game at Chieftain Park.

THS scored in the four minutes into the game and just kept on bringing the goals.

Tonganoxie defeated Eudora, 10-0, Tuesday in a game that ended about 12 minutes early because of the mercy rule. The Chieftains also won by a 10-0 score earlier in the season at Eudora.

“I think we moved the ball real well,” THS coach Luke Denney said. “We wanted to try different things.”

Tonganoxie led, 7-0, at halftime as Kirk Rodell scored four goals — two unassisted and another two courtesy of fellow senior Brad Willis. Willis also scored two in the first half as another senior, Travis Schultz, also scored for the Chieftains.

Rodell and Willis both scored in the second half, while sophomore Zack Mayse scored the final goal.

Tonganoxie had 31 shots on goal — 18 in the first half.

Eudora had eight total, with six coming in the second half.

THS senior goalie Shane Gober had six saves, while Eudora goalies had 17.

Tuesday’s game was delayed in the second half when a Eudora player was injured. The Cardinal’s knee cap slipped out of place and to the outside of his knee.

Tonganoxie now will wait until Saturday to find out who and where they’ll be playing. Regional pairings will come out Saturday morning for the postseason. Tonganoxie finished the regular season at 6-9-1.

Tonganoxie 1, Bishop-Ward 0

A late Brad Willis goal courtesy of a Kirk Rodell assist late in the second half pushed Tonganoxie to a 1-0 win against Ward last Thursday in Kansas City, Kan.
