By Shawn Linenberger - | Apr 6, 2005

The Bulldogs are in the win column.

After starting the season with four losses, the McLouth High baseball team bounced back with two wins Monday against arch-rival Oskaloosa in McLouth.

In game 1, McLouth trailed, 3-1, heading into the bottom of the third, but the Bulldogs turned into a hitting machine in the late innings. MHS scored four in the third, three in the fourth and five in the fifth for a 13-3 victory in five innings. McLouth’s Kevin Stewart had three doubles for the Bulldogs in the first game.

Pitcher Joey Lawson picked up his first victory of the year for MHS, while Cody Heston took the loss for Oskaloosa. Lawson also had a home run in the first game.

The run production continued early in game 2 for McLouth. The Bulldogs scored two in the first and never looked back.

Oskaloosa scored one in the top of the fourth, but the Bears couldn’t get any closer. MHS scored in the bottom of the fourth and twice more in the fifth for a 5-1 victory.

McLouth’s Joel Dickerson hammered in a home run for the Bulldogs, while Lance Lamborn picked up his first win of the season.

McLouth opened the season last week with a doubleheader against Atchison County. McLouth put up a fight in the first game, but lost, 11-9. Game 2, however, wasn’t close. Atchison County hammered McLouth, 12-1.

A similar result occurred Thursday against Pomona. McLouth fell in the first game, 6-4. Pomona then clobbered the Bulldogs, 13-3, in the second game.

Now 2-4 on the season, MHS will entertain Pleasant Ridge on Thursday in McLouth.
