Two women interested in board seat

By Lisa Scheller - | Dec 28, 2005

Two Tonganoxie women, Diane Truesdell and Paula Gish, have applied to fill a vacant position on the Tonganoxie school board.

The seat has been vacant since the Rev. Rick Lamb moved to Texas in May.

¢ The school board will interview candidates at a special board meeting Jan. 16. In the meantime, anyone else interested in applying to fill the position may contact the district office at (913) 845-2153.

As of press time on Tuesday, The Mirror had been unable to reach Diane Truesdell.

Paula Gish and her husband, Steve Gish, who teaches in McLouth, have two sons attending Tonganoxie schools, one at the grade school and the other at the junior high. Gish said her children have had a “very positive” educational experience in Tonganoxie.

“Part of what allows that to happen is that there are people who are willing to give time and energy to the district,” Gish said. “And now I’d like to have the opportunity to do just that.”

Gish also said it’s important that all the board’s seats be filled.

“The seat has been vacant for some time,” Gish said. “I just think another person who’s making a commitment to the educational process here for our students could only help.”

Gish, who has lived in Tonganoxie for 14 years, said she’s concerned about maintaining the overall health of the district.

“I don’t have any kind of an agenda, if that’s an issue for people,” said Gish, a former advertising representative for The Mirror newspaper. “Just continuing to do the good work that’s been done and make sure that we’re making the right decisions in the future.”
