Seniors sweep first round at state
For the first time in recent history, the Tonganoxie wrestling team swept its first-round state wrestling matches Friday at Kansas Coliseum in Wichita.
Hunter Samuels defeated James Fox of Douglass, 13-12, in his opening competition. Garrett Palmer upset Concordia’s Weston Fleming, 3-2, and Ross Starcher pinned Goodland’s Josiah Goodley. Starcher pinned Goodley in three minutes, which was the midway point in his match.
Samuels and Palmer then lost their second-round matches, but still can earn medals through the consolation bracket.
With a win Friday night, Starcher will secure the first medal of his career.
