Our view: Time to speak out about post office site
The U.S. Postal Service has narrowed its focus to four sites it deems feasible for construction of a new post office in Tonganoxie.
And now, post office officials want to hear what Tonganoxie area residents have to say about the four sites:
- At the southwest corner of U.S. Highway 24-40 and Fourth Street (Kansas Highway 16), just south of the abandoned gasoline station.
- At the southwest corner of Laming Road and Leavenworth County Road 5 (near Stack ‘N’ Stuff storage).
- At the southeast corner of Laming Road and Woodfield Drive (north of the county annex).
- At the southwest corner of East Fourth Street and East Street (extended), about three blocks east of the Tonganoxie Fire Station, on the south side of Fourth.
If you have a preference for one site above the others, now is the time to voice that opinion. And while the ultimate decision about where a new post office will be built will depend on a number of factors, it is important that Tonganoxie residents express themselves about this all-important building in our city.
Take the time to jot down your thoughts and drop them off at the post office. Your opinion is important.
