Westward Ho!!! THS crowned substate champions
The dream now is a reality.
Tonganoxie fought back in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s Class 4A substate championship game against Sumner into overtime on an Ali Pistora jumper in the lane.
In the overtime, Tonganoxie took control, limiting Sumner to two points on its way to a 56-44 win and a ticket to the state basketball tournament in Salina’s Bicentennial Center.
Sumner clawed back from an early deficit and built an eight-point lead in the second half, but a gusty Chieftain performance denied the Sabres a trip to state as the Kansas City school finished its year at 19-4.
Tonganoxie improved to 21-2 on the season and will play Thursday in state quarterfinal action.
Box score
Sumner 12 11 15 4 2 — 44
