Tonganoxie Days planning includes Air Force fly-over

By Shawn Linenberger - | Mar 9, 2005

Organizers are working to get the word out about Tonganoxie Days.

Country Cruisers Car Club members took fliers about the festival to the World of Wheels auto show at Bartle Hall in Kansas City, Mo.

  • Tonganoxie Days is set for June 10 and 11, at sites throughout Tonganoxie.

¢ The next meeting of the planning committee will be held at noon April 7 at Council Chambers, 325 S. Delaware. Anyone is welcome to attend planning meetings.

During the March 19 St. Patrick’s Day parade in downtown Tonganoxie, fliers also will be distributed.

Tonganoxie Community Historical Society members also will hand out fliers this spring at a Kansas Sampler event in Wamego.

“We just keep expanding out a little bit,” festival organizer Connie Torneden said.

A fly-over is another possible event during Tonganoxie Days 2005. The festival included a fly-over two years ago and should be in business for another this June. The fly-over is courtesy of the U.S. Air Force.

“We’ve got the paperwork signed and in the works to get the fly-over, so we’re waiting to hear back on that,” Torneden said.

Tonganoxie Days will be June 10-11, and events will be held throughout Tonganoxie. On June 10, participants for Tonganoxie’s annual barbecue cook-off will start preparing entries, while Star Struck Dance Studio again will sponsor the Miss Tonganoxie Days pageant that night.

Most activities will take place June 11, including a car show, vendors downtown and events at the historical site, among other festivities.
