Bulldogs named to all-DVL squads

By Shawn Linenberger - | Nov 21, 2005

The Delaware Valley League football champions had plenty of players named to this year’s all-DVL squad.

McLouth, which went 9-0 in the regular season and finished as league and district champions with a 10-1 overall record, had 10 players named to the all-league list with 13 selections overall. Kevin Stewart, Jason McGhee and Joel Gill received honors on both offense and defense.

McLouth coach Harry Hester was pleased with his the all-league honors.

“That’s a team award,” Hester said. “You’re never going to get everybody on there you think should.

“There were some players who I think were deserving who were left off, but we do feel good about the players we did get out there.”

Hester was especially excited about the Bulldogs landing three players to the list as offensive linemen –McGhee, Jason Perry and Jonah Wise. Another, Josh Hobbs, made the list on defense with McGhee.

“It says that getting three lineman on there, specifically on offense, that’s a real team recognition,” Hester said.

Other MHS players earning all-league honors were Jimmy Steffey, first-team quarterback; Tyler Wise, first-team linebacker; Andrew Booth, honorable mention wide receiver; and Kyle Sparks, honorable mention cornerback.

Farris named to volleyball squad

The McLouth volleyball team also had recognition on that all-DVL team.

Sophomore Samantha Farris earned all-league honors as a libero/defensive specialist.

Farris, who also plays basketball and softball at McLouth, earned her first all-league distinction with this season’s selection.

MHS coach Amy Bergman said Farris was deserving of the honor.

“She’s a hard worker, very energetic,” Farris said. “She can take any situation and turn it into something better than it could be.”

Bergman also said Farris gave a lot of effort and had “spirit on the court.”

McLouth finished its season with an 8-24 record after losing to Pleasant Ridge in the first round of Class 3A substate action.
