Track teams sweep at Lansing Invitational
The Tonganoxie High boys and girls teams swept their opening season-opening meet Tuesday.
THS won both team titles at the Lansing Invitational. Lansing finished second in the boys and girls team standings.
On the boys side, Derek O’Brien, Travis Guthrie and the THS 3,200 relay team all placed first. O’Brien won the pole vault with a 10-6 height, while Guthrie had the winning toss in the discus at 154-7. The 3,200 team finished in 9 minutes, 4.31 seconds.
In girls action, Jennifer Wagner won the pole vault, Roxi Grizzle secured gold in the shot put and discus and sister Ronnie Grizzle won the discus. Wagner also won the 100 and the 300 hurdles. Tracie Hileman claimed the triple jump title and Christy Weller the 800. The 3,200 and 1,600 teams also had first-place finishes. Winning distances and times weren’t available on the girls side.
