Sweep pushes Bulldogs to 2-2

By Shawn Linenberger - | Apr 12, 2006

The McLouth High baseball team is at .500 on the season.

After dropping its season-opening doubleheader to Oskaloosa last week, the Bulldogs bounced back and defeated Atchison County, 7-3 and 11-0.

In the first game, Lance Lamborn had three hits, three RBI and his first career home run.

In the second game, Kevin Stewart had 4 RBI as Lamborn pitched a one-hit shutout.

“I was really pleased with how the kids came out to play,” MHS coach Clay Mayer said. “We talked about bringing our practice intensity to every game and it showed tonight. “The kids never let down, but played relaxed as well.”

The Bulldogs next will play April 24 at Easton against Pleasant Ridge.

Softball

The MHS softball team was 1-1 heading into Tuesday’s showdown with Silver Lake in McLouth. Last year, Silver Lake’s 1-0 victory against MHS in the Class 3A regional finals prevented the Bulldogs from advancing to the state tournament for the first time.

Results from that doubleheader, as well as Monday’s doubleheader against Jeff West, can be found in next week’s edition of The Mirror.

Track

The MHS girls team placed fifth, while the boys team placed 10th Friday at the McLouth Invitational. The girls scored 62 points at the meet, which Kansas City Christian won with 108.5.

The boys team scored two points. Wathena won the meet with 120. Kansas City Christian placed second with 118.

McLouth will compete Thursday at Eudora.
