Local FFA chapter hosts Day at the Farm
The Tonganoxie Future Farmers of America chapter hosted its annual Day at the Farm event April 28 for the third-graders of Tonganoxie Elementary School.
More than 130 third-graders attended the event on a rainy Friday morning at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds.
This year there were the following eight stations: equipment and horses, dairy and show cattle, pigs and chickens, sheep and goats, wildlife, stream trailer, feed and spray coupe, and a dog agility demonstration.
After recovering from Day at the Farm, Tonganoxie FFA members were back in action April 30 through May 2. The horse judging team competed at Timber Creek Stables in Manhattan for the state contest.
The horse judging team included Sarah Smith, Nicole Allen, and Alex Kissinger, who placed sixth overall.
Mike Holton, Patrick Holton, Terri Downs, and Sarah Smith competed on the agronomy team at the state contest.
The agronomy (crops) team received 17th place.
On May 2, Casey Davis, Shannon Smith, Kelly Yunghans, and Tyler Thompson represented the Tonganoxie Future Farmers of America chapter at the State FFA Livestock Judging contest.
The team placed 15th.
