Pleasant Ridge, Wathena teams sweep MHS on Bulldogs’ court

By Shawn Linenberger - | Feb 8, 2006

Although McLouth High was tied with Wathena at halftime, the boys team couldn’t push past the Wildcats in Delaware Valley League action Jan. 31 at McLouth.

The teams were tied at 32 at the intermission, but WHS pulled ahead by five in the third quarter and kept that lead in the fourth for a 66-58 victory.

Three McLouth players scored in double figures — Kevin Stewart with 14, Jimmy Steffey with 13 and Trevor Keling with 12 — but the Bulldogs didn’t pull out the win. Meanwhile, four Wathena players scored in double figures.

MHS posted four three-pointers compared to Wathena’s two. McLouth went 10-for-19 from the free-throw line, compared to Wathena’s 16-for-25 shooting.

Pleasant Ridge outlasts MHS

Although the Bulldogs stayed with the Rams for a quarter, Pleasant Ridge went on a tear the rest of the game and picked up a 66-44 win. Pleasant Ridge, which improved to 11-3, outscored MHS, 15-6, in the second quarter.

The Rams’ Chris Barnes had a game-high 22 as two other PRHS players scored in double figures. Keling was McLouth’s top scorer with 14.

The Bulldogs fell to 4-10 with the loss. McLouth played at home Tuesday against Troy and will play Friday at Doniphan West. The team also will be on the road Tuesday at Jefferson County North.
