Second quarter pushes Mill Valley past Tonganoxie
The Tonganoxie High boys team held tough with Mill Valley on Friday in Shawnee in the first quarter, but a breakout second quarter for the Jags doomed the Chieftains.
THS trailed after one quarter, 15-10, but Mill Valley outscored Tonganoxie, 20-3, in the second quarter on its way to a 64-33 rout.
Mill Valley, the top team in the Kaw Valley League, improved to 17-1 with the win. Tonganoxie, which is in last place in the league, now is 0-18 overall.
Tonganoxie’s Tyler Miles had a big game, scoring 17 for the Chieftains.
But Mill Valley’s interior players — Michael Mahan and Kyle DeBerg — scored 20 and 19 respectively. Guard Jack Johnson also was in double figures with 11.
Tonganoxie played Tuesday at Perry-Lecompton and will finish its regular season Friday at Basehor-Linwood before entering substate next Tuesday.
