Obituary: Shirley L. White
Services for Shirley L. White, 84, Ottawa, Kan., were Saturday, July 22, 2006, at Sacred Heart Church in Ottawa. Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Mrs. White died Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at the Village Manor Nursing Home in Ottawa. She was born Jan. 21, 1922, in Vernon, Texas, the daughter of Joseph and Bertha Servatius.
She moved to Ottawa with her family as a small child and graduated from Ottawa High School in 1940. She then attended two years of nurses training at Sabetha.
She married Marvin Lewis White on Feb. 14, 1947, in Lawrence. Together they owned White Grocery in Ottawa for 30 years before retiring in 1988. He died in 1995.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the Happy Hour Club and the Widow and Widowers’ Group. She started a lunch program at Sacred Heart School and also served as a Brownie leader when her daughters were young.
Survivors include three daughters, Betty Craig, Tonganoxie, Mary Ann Bacon, Ottawa, and Margaret Hackett, Lawrence; a brother, Gerald J. Servatius, El Paso, Texas; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
