Downtown eatery set to open next month
The Bullfrog Grill is on its way.
Jeremy Treat plans on July 11 to open a new restaurant at 416 E. Fourth, the former home of Badd Jack’s Southwest.
“There will be kind of bar and grill fare,” Treat said. “Burgers and chops, there’s going to be some salads and wraps, and a pretty healthy kids’ menu.”
Bullfrog Grill will be family-oriented, said Treat, who has 15 years experience in the restaurant business.
Most recently, he managed PepperJax Grill in Lawrence.
“We’ll have a lot of daily specials,” Treat said, “Things like meatloaf, chicken and dumplings.”
Treat, his wife, Debbie, and their sons, Coy, 6, and Cooper, 2, moved to Tonganoxie a year ago.
They had lived in Lawrence and were looking for a smaller town to call home. Debbie works at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
“We kind of fell in love with Tonganoxie,” Treat said.
Between now and July 11, Treat will be busy setting up his restaurant.
“I’m cleaning up, getting the equipment purchased and get the menu finalized,” Treat said.
And, though his wife won’t be working at the restaurant, Treat said this would be somewhat of a family venture.
“My oldest son is already talking about how he’ll come over to the restaurant after school and wipe down the tables,” Treat said.
