THS, the No. 8 seed in its 4A substate, came out of the gates against the top-seeded Sabres. The squads were tied at 15 at the end of the first.

But Sumner caught fire in the second quarter. The Sabres outscored the Chieftains, 25-9, in the second and kept rolling in the second half.

Sumner won, 75-45, and advanced to the substate semifinals Friday. THS fell to 2-19 on the season after winning its final two regular season games.
