Recent rains postpone benefit trail ride
A trail ride to benefit Tonganoxie High School student Sarah Smith and has been postponed until Sunday.
Sarah, 16, suffered head injuries Sept. 13 when the horse she was riding slipped on wet grass.
Since then, she has been a patient at Kansas University Hospital, Kansas City, Kan.
She was in good condition Monday, according to a hospital official.
Adam Bryant, manager of Tonganoxie’s Vet Vax, organized an Oct. 14 trail ride at Clinton Lake. However, that event was cancelled because of rain.
Bryant said Sunday’s trail ride will start at 10 a.m. and likely will continue until 4 p.m. Bryant said he thinks about 100 riders will participate.
After the ride, riders and others who attend can have supper and participate in an auction, also part of the fund-raiser.
Bryant said auction items include a child’s all-terrain vehicle, horse saddles and gift certificates to local restaurants.
For more information, contact Bryant at (913) 845-3760.
Tonganoxie High School’s members of Future Farmers of America also are planning a fund-raiser for Sarah — a chili supper and silent auction.
The event will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 11 at Tonganoxie Christian Church, 204 Washington.
Tickets, which cost $5, may be purchased at the door.
For more information or to donate items for the auction, contact the high school at (913) 845-2627.
