Polls open for area school, city primaries

By Lisa Scheller - | Feb 27, 2007

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today for primary elections that will narrow the field of candidates in four area races in preparation for the April 3 general election.

In the Tonganoxie area, voters will cast ballots on school board candidates in two positions.

  • Position No. 2, which represents north Tonganoxie, features three candidates, Kathy Baragary, Rex Hutton and Craig Lohman. The top two vote-getters will advance to the April general election.
  • Position No. 7, an at-large position, has three candidates running, Francie Campbell, Mildred McMillon and Dr. Bill Weatherford. Voters will eliminate one of the candidates Tuesday.

In McLouth, eight candidates have filed for three city council positions. In Tuesday’s primary, voters will trim the number of candidates from eight to six. The ballot will show nine candidates, because Tom Burns filed, but later withdrew his candidacy. Here are the other eight candidates: incumbents Sharon Lobb Johnson and Bob Ryan, Gerald Sullivan, George L. Bowen Jr., Curtis Woodhead, Keith Meador, Myra Harwood and Charles Karmann.

In the Linwood area, voters will cast ballots the Position No. 3 seat on the Basehor-Linwood School Board, narrowing the field of candidates from three to two. Those running are Eric L. Dove, Angie Erickson and

Kerry Mueller.
