FBLA to raise funds with coffee, tea sales
Tonganoxie High School students couldn’t have picked a better time to start selling an assorted selection of teas and coffee.
After all, winter hasn’t ended yet and it’s nice to wake up in the morning to a fresh cup of coffee or tea.
Seniors Justin Moss and Kaitlyn Saathoff are piloting a Future Business Leaders of America club project in which the 73 members sell organically grown coffees, teas, hot cocoa mix and chocolate bars.
The club purchased the products from Equal Exchange, a cooperative that sells products from farmers in Latin America and Africa, Moss said.
Moss said his club’s plan is to raise funds to benefit two Tonganoxie residents — Sarah Smith and Travis Schultz — who last year were injured in accidents. Smith was hurt Sept. 13 when a horse she was riding slipped on wet grass, and Schultz was injured Sept. 15 in a four-wheeler accident in Oklahoma.
Sarah is a junior at THS and Schultz, a 2005 THS graduate, is taking online classes through Kansas City Kansas Community College.
