College group to spend spring break painting houses in Tonganoxie

By Estuardo Garcia - | Mar 16, 2007

Next week at least four Tonganoxie residents are going to get their house painted by for free by College Pro Painters.

College Pro Painters is an organization for young entrepreneurial students who want to spend their break time from school running their own business.

Eighteen students from schools across the country and five full time staff members will start painting houses Monday, March 19.

April Dohle has been working with College Pro in the Kansas City Kansas area for the last three years. This is the first year that she will be bringing the program to Tonganoxie and she expects great community support.

“One of the things College Pro looks for is interaction with the students and residents, Dohle said. “I know what this does for an entire community. It impacts the entire town. It’s all a positive experience shared by everyone who is involved.”

Volunteers from the University of Kansas will be joining the College Pro crew in helping to paint these houses, but Dohle encourages anyone in the community who wants to volunteer to contact her.

She said they are willing to help anyone who wants to learn how to use a paintbrush.

If you don’t want to get paint on yourself, Dohle said they are also looking for volunteers to help feed the students. She said they are looking for anyone who wants to help adopt a meal or adopt a dish.

Anyone interestedin volunteering can reach Dohle at (913) 369-9803.
