Kaw Valley League Football Report: Week Six
Three weeks of football remain in the 2008 regular season and the race for the Kaw Valley League championship comes down to one game.
That game, however, is the last game of the season when KVL unbeatens Lansing and Mill Valley square off at MVHS. Both teams are in the same Class 5A district with Washington and Schlagle, so neither will suffer a league blemish during the next two weeks. Also, unlike last year when Lansing, Bonner Springs and Perry-Lecompton were tri-champions, there will be only one league champion this year.
With district play beginning on Friday, the focus will turn to the state playoffs. The top two teams from each four-team district advance to the playoffs. Last year the KVL sent six teams into postseason play. Two are guaranteed to make it in Class 4A considering one district includes league schools Tonganoxie, Basehor-Linwood, Piper and Bishop Ward. Which ones go — as well as whether any others join them — remains a mystery.
