Kaw Valley League Football Report: Week Two
Lansing running back Brenton Smith continues to feast on Kaw Valley League defenses.
After rumbling for 293 yards during the season-opener against Piper, Smith turned in a 178-yard effort on 32 carries Friday against Turner.
Smith’s footspeed and solid play from the Lions’ offensive line has LHS atop the KVL standings.
That might not last long, though. Lansing plays host to league co-leader Bonner Springs at 7 p.m. Friday in a clash of two of the league’s tri-champions from 2007.
Perry-Lecompton was the other of the tri-champs. The Kaws are 1-0 in the league and 1-1 overall. They have a league contest this week at home against unbeaten Tonganoxie. The Chieftains, however, have yet to play a league opponent.
An underlying theme this week could be what impact, if any, the numerous rainouts last week have on this week’s games as far as preparation is concerned. Some teams played on Saturday and then had a normal game-week schedule. That wasn’t the case for Bonner Springs and Basehor-Linwood, however. They played Monday night.
