A bake sale will be held from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday at the Leavenworth County Annex, 425 Laming Rd. in Tonganoxie.

And on Saturday, May 9, the Tonganoxie High School golf team will host the inaugural Almost Golf Tournament.

The “golf” tournament will be played on the Tonganoxie High School campus and plastic, practice golf balls will be used.

A two-person scramble format will be used and the first 72 golfers will be accepted. Registration is $15 per person. Students play for $10 per person.

Golfers will use one club, which has to be a 9 iron or less. Prizes will be awarded and a silent auction held. In addition, hole sponsorship is available.

Proceeds will go to the THS golf team and Team Tongie.

Team Tongie is an organization established in the Tonganoxie School District to raise money that goes toward helping people with incidental expenses that may arise from medical emergencies, such as gas money, airplane tickets, discretionary spending money and the like. It’s a way for students and the community in general to come together in times of crises.

At Team Tongie’s first event, a cake auction held at a student assembly, more than $1,000 was raised by bidding on just 12 cakes.

Hair stylists at Hair and Co. in Tonganoxie held a drive in which they cut hair on a recent Saturday and donated to Team Tongie from money raised through the haircuts.
