Jan and Orie Nelson played host to the Sumerix family of Ormond Beach, Fla., for five days in late July. Daughter Camille and grandchildren Cody, Jennifer and friends celebrated Jennifer’s 18th birthday with the Nelsons. While here, the Sumerixes visited long-time friends in Leavenworth and past school mates of Fort Leavenworth schools. Several of grandpa’s vintage vehicles took trips throughout the county roads, giving the grandchildren time at the wheel with the unfamiliar gear shifting.

Wanda Parker vacationed in Branson, Mo., recently with her daughters, Cheryl, Melissa, Joy and Terrie. They had a great time.

Linda Schwinn’s parents recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with their families present at their rural Leavenworth home. Anna and Harold Shermbeck were married Aug. 14, 1949. Linda made the special anniversary cake.

Brayden Roggenkamp has been spending a few days with his grandparents, Johnny and Jackie Schwinn, while his parents are on vacation in Branson, Mo.

Justin Schwinn, son of Brian and Linda Schwinn, celebrated his 16th birthday on Aug. 2 with his family.

Marcus Woodhead celebrated his 80th birthday on Aug. 2 in the Nazarene Church basement with all his sisters and brothers present. Thelma Farris, Myrtice Fuqua, Helen Bates, Marcus and Oona Woodhead, Marlin Woodhead and Anabel Knapp, as well as many other relatives, friends and neighbors were present. It was Marlin’s birthday as well. They were born on the same date, three years apart.

Kathy and Tom Powell of Springdale traveled July 23 to Lake George, Colo. They arrived home Aug. 1. They had a very enjoyable vacation. Tom said it rained every day they were there. It was 42 degrees when they left.
