Laurie Cleavinger graduated May 15 from Kansas State University with a doctor of philosophy degree in curriculum and instruction. There was a family barbecue May 16 and an open house May 17.

Those attending were Lyle and Sharon Metz of Butte, Mont., Glen and Sue Metz of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Katie Cleavinger and Graham Wendel, Austin, Texas, as well as family and friends from the community and four nuns from the Sisters of Charity in Leavenworth.

Tim and Diane Murry and Jean Murry went May 16 to cemeteries in Cherokee and Labette. They also went to Miami, Okla., to visit Jean’s niece at her workplace.

David and Jane Turner attended a T-Bones baseball game Friday at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. On Saturday, they went to a pig roast that Ben Allen played host to at the home of Kelly and Tara Angell. Kevin and Sandy Butler and their grandson, Jacob, also went, as did a lot of people from the area.

Jarbalo United Methodist will have Vacation Bible School from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. July 27-30. It is open to youths in kindergarten through fourth grade.

Visiting Bid Sheppard on Sunday were Katie Aufdemberge and Charlie, Lenora and Jessica Dickinson and Bob and Sara Aufdemberge.
