Chieftains softball gets No. 6 seed
The Tonganoxie High softball team might not have the higher seed in its Class 4A regional opening round game but it might have the upper hand.
The Chieftains received the No. 6 seed in the Eudora regional and will face No. 3 Bishop Ward at EHS on Monday at 2:45 p.m. THS swept Ward less than a week ago, winning 2-1 and 4-1 on May 7 at home.
Tonganoxie swept at Piper on Tuesday to close its regular season, putting the team’s record at 7-11. Ward is 9-9.
If the Chieftains are able to move out of the first round, they will play either No. 2 DeSoto (10-10) or No. 7 Piper (5-15) on Tuesday at Eudora in a semifinal.
On the other side of the bracket, No. 1 Basehor-Linwood plays No. 8 Atchison (4-14), and the winner of that matchup plays either No. 4 Eudora (9-10) or No. 5 Sumner Academy (6-8) in the other Tuesday semifinal.
The two remaining teams play for the regional championship and a trip to state in the final at approximately 6:30 p.m.
