Host Chieftains awarded No. 2 seed

By Mirror Staff Reports - | May 13, 2009

Even though the Tonganoxie High baseball team will be hosting its Class 4A regional tournament, the Chieftains will be doing so as the No. 2 seed.

Tonganoxie (12-5 entering Wednesday, the final day of the regular season) will face the region’s No. 7 team, Perry-Lecompton (4-16) at 5 p.m. on Monday. The Kaws just defeated THS, 9-7, on May 11 at Perry.

Ottawa received the bracket’s No. 1 seed. OHS (13-5) plays Santa Fe Trail (3-14) in a first-round game at Ottawa on Monday.

If the Chieftains advance to the second round, they will play either No. 3 Eudora (14-6) or No. 6 Baldwin (5-14).

Jeff West (11-7) takes on DeSoto (11-9) in the region’s other opening-round contest.

The semifinals are scheduled to be played at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday with the regional championship game to follow at roughly 7 p.m. Those three games will be played at Leavenworth County Fairgrounds.
