This year’s festival is Saturday, June 6, at the Basehor City Park, 15940 Leavenworth Road.

The day will begin at 7 a.m. with a Chris Cakes pancake breakfast, followed by musical entertainment from the Prairie Dulcimer Club.

Dairy Days chairperson Melanie Morris said young festivalgoers could expect an enjoyable day with attractions like a petting zoo, a magician, balloon animals, face-painting and an appearance by the T-Bones mascot “Sizzle the Bull.”

“The kids really have a blast,” Morris said of the day’s activities. “There’s all kinds of things for them to do the entire day.”

Morris also said adults could look forward to an entertaining day, watching several bands, stopping by vendors’ tables, and of course, sampling the many edible treats.

“We’re going to have amazing food, as usual,” she said. “You can’t beat festival food, and we always have tons of it.”

Dairy Days 2009 will be the event’s first appearance in the city park, which Morris says is a fortunate location. The three previous festivals have been on the lawn of Basehor-Linwood High School.

“We were so excited to have the park for Dairy Days this year,” Morris said. “There will be so much space.”

Visitors won’t have to worry about parking, Morris said, but everyone should plan to provide their own seating.

“I know people are going to be concerned about parking, but we have more than six acres to work with,” she said. “There will be plenty of room for everyone. But bring a lawn chair, because seating will be limited.”

Morris said whether the sun is shining or rain is falling, the festival is sure to be a fun-filled day for all.

“It’s going to be a great time, so come on out and join us,” she said.
